Frequently Asked Questions:

Are you licensed, insured and bonded?

  • Business licenses are not required for the pet sitting industry in Carver County.  However, we are members of Pet Sitters International (PSI) and Pet Sitters Associates, LLC.  We have general liability and Care, Custody and Control coverage as well as bonding coverage through Pet Sitters Associates of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  In addition, all of our sitters are over 21 and have been background checked.  Paw Bunyan Pet Care is an LLC company registered through the state of Minnesota and abides by all state and federal rules.

What does PSI membership mean?

  • With nearly 7,000 member businesses, Pet Sitters International is the most respected authority on pet sitting throughout the world.  As well as having access to superior continuing education resources, PSI members practice an honest and ethical business model and take pride in knowing their talents and day-to-day efforts make a difference in the lives of pets and the people who care for them.

Are you trained in pet first aid?

  • Yes, we are trained in pet first aid through the American Red Cross.

What is your service area?

  • Our service area includes Chaska and Victoria, Minnesota.

How many visits do you recommend?

  • We recommend at least three visits per day for dog sitting and at least one visit per day for cats.  Of course, we understand each pet is unique and we will be happy to customize their schedules accordingly.  For your cat's safety and well-being, we do require a minimum of once per day visits.

Do you administer pet medication?

  • No, not at this time.

Do you walk pets in rain or snow?

  • Yes!  We love all types of weather and will walk your dog as long as they can tolerate it.  We ask that you provide a towel to dry their feet and coat.  Your pet's safety is our utmost concern, so in times of extreme heat or cold, we may cut the walk short and concentrate instead on indoor play and belly rubs!

Will you keep in contact during visits?

  • Absolutely.  On our initial consultation, we will discuss your preferred method of updating information about your pet while you are away.  We can send pictures or videos via text or email, whichever you prefer.

Do you offer boarding services?

  • Not at this time.

What is your billing policy?

  • For long-term dog walking, we will email a weekly or monthly invoice.  For pet sitting, we will email an invoice at the completion of the last visit.  Payments are due upon receipt of invoice.  If unpaid after 30 days, you will accrue a 10% finance charge on the unpaid balance per month until paid.

What forms of payment do you accept?

  • We take all major credit cards through our secure gateway provider, details of which are included with the emailed invoice.  We also accept checks and cash.  There is a $20 service charge for all returned checks.

Is there an extra charge for holidays or weekends?

  • No extra charge for weekends, but holidays incur a surcharge of $10.  These include New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

Do you take last minute requests?

  • Yes, our goal is to accommodate your every need.  If we are available, there is an additional fee of $10 for late bookings within 24 hours of visit dates.  Please keep in mind holiday reservations fill up early.  We prefer at least two weeks' notice for all reservations.

What are your office hours?

  • Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  We will respond to after-hours inquiries as soon as possible the next business day. In the case of an emergency, we will make every attempt to respond right away.

What can I expect during the initial consultation?

  • At our initial meet and greet, we will gather information about your pet, their habits, supplies and preferences.  We will also cover our policies and contract and test and obtain a key for entry. We will be masked for our initial meeting to meet you and your pet(s). Please consider masking for this visit. Weather permitting, we would prefer to meet outside.  Please move all pet-related items to a single location to minimize areas of contact.

How will you get into my house?

  • At our initial meeting, we will pick up a key and request the garage code if applicable.  We prefer to keep this house key and keep it in our secure locked safe in our office for emergencies or future visits.  If you prefer not to let us keep a copy of the house key, there will be an $8 charge for each pickup and drop-off of the key in future.  Due to security concerns, we will not leave your keys hidden outside for you.
